Project type
Large Scale Drawing
Date
October, 21, 2024
Size
6'w x 3'h
Materials
chalk pastels, brown paper, tape, white paper
Inspired by the butterflies of Callaway Gardens’ Butterfly Garden, Forest Mother of Pearl is a large-scale drawing measuring 6’ wide by 3’ tall, created as both an artistic expression and a study of the butterfly’s colors and intricate wing patterns. Using brown and white paper and color pastels, the piece emphasizes layering, texture, and the subtle interplay of light and color. Working at this scale challenged me to consider composition, proportion, and the viewer’s experience, while deepening my observation skills and reflecting my ongoing inspiration from nature and my travels.
